Scalloped hem dress OOTD

I wore this to dinner on Sunday at Chris's mom and stepdad's house. The dress is something I picked up in St. Barths when we went for Thanksgiving in 2007. The belt is from Anthropologie. The shoes are just flea market finds. I hadn't worn the dress in a long time but the scalloped hem and trim reminded me of a lot of recent skirts and dresses from Anthropologie. I am trying to squeeze in as much summer clothing as possible before Labor Day.

BTW, there is a HUGE list of sale items and second/third cuts over at Effortless Anthropologie. Be sure to check it out if you are looking for deals this fine Tuesday! I'm sitting this one out but I'd love to know what others are getting.

The dress is super flattering on you. The color makes your skin glow. Great summer dress!

Thanks so much, Tien! I have to blame spending a little too many later afternoons hanging out at the city pools to cool off for the glow though. :)

That dress is just lovely on you Jess - so flattering and pretty! I love the shape on you. I've never seen that Anthro belt on someone, and it looks great on you with that dress!

I love that shade of blue on you! Sorta random question- would you mind telling us what hair products you use? It looks like we have very similar hair types (curly from the ears down) and I'd love to know what you put in to make your curl so casually defined! =)

Thanks so much, Kim! The belt was a steal on second cut sale.

Kaity, you are too kind! I rotate products a lot and don't have anything I view as a "must have." I generally buy what I can find for cheap from the TJ Maxx clearance rack, save for shampoo and conditioner.

I wash it two-three a week, tops (unless I go swimming in which case I rinse the chlorine out and condition). I rotate shampoos between a purple shampoo (generic shimmerlights from sally beauty supply) and Matrix Curl Life.

For conditioners, if I use Matrix Curl Life, I use the matching conditioner. If I use shimmerlights I also use a deep conditioner by L'Oreal called Nature's Therapy.

Afterwards, I pull my hair back in one of the microfiber towels I bought on ebay for cheap. I quickly use a wide tooth comb (which I shouldn't do cause it disrupts the curl pattern... you should technically only brush curly hair in the shower for this reason but I never remember) to detangle. Then I scrunch it a bit and air dry most of the time (though I occasionally diffuse). Sometimes I add Frederic Fekkai curling cream or some type of shine/texture cream from sebastian (potion #9 holds the curl really well but can be kind of stiff so I use that only if I need everything to hold). Once dry I sometimes add some Jojoba oil (from trader joes or whole foods) for shine.

That was long winded. The short version:
a rotation of
Generic Clariol Shimmerlights
L'Oreal Nature's Therapy conditioner (in the jar)
or
Matrix Curl Life shampoo and conditioner

Frederic Fekkai curling cream or
Sebastian Potion #9 or
this other sebastion shine stuff I got from tj maxx

Occasionally: jojoba oil on the tips to create shiny dimension.

A part of me wonders if the Pittsburgh humidity actually helps keep it looking fuller bodied thanks to how big it gets on its own? Anyway I hope that wasn't tmi. I am happy to share but never know how much "i" is too much. haha Thanks for reading!

Thanks so much Jess! I'm clueless about hair, so in my opinion the more detailed the better! =)

I love your style, you always seem to hit the right mark of modern femininity with a bit of quirk in your outfits. I'm slouching my way through grad school and a decidedly un-glamorous public library shelving job, but when I graduate to my first 'real' job I hope I can look as cute as you! By the way, I ended up getting an MBMJ Huge Hiller in a gorgeous caramel-tan color off ebay for a steal after seeing it on your blog. Its gorgeous and I always get comments on it! Thanks for the inspiration! =)

Kaity, I am so glad to hear you got a Hillier! It is a great bag. Very versatile and roomy. You are too kind to offer such sweet compliments! I promise that I slouched plenty as a grad student (and still do as I transition into a faculty role and plow through finishing my diss.)

Gee, thank you so much! You are too sweet!

Allie, aww! I blame the glow on my Italian half for being capable of tanning despite my sunblock.

A Stylized Hysteria, thank you for that! I hadn't worn this dress much because with just the waist tied it wasn't that flattering but I think it looks good belted.

Cat, thank you! :) I wish I could retain my summer color through winter.

Brianna, thanks so much!

Goldenmeans, you are too sweet! I am loath to see the city pools (responsible for the bulk of my outdoor time this summer) close up.
