I wore this outfit to campus the other day, with the plan to really only wear army green. But I got dressed in the morning and realized that the army green top layer I needed (for warmth due to last week's cold spell) didn't match. And somehow, simultaneously it was too close in color to contrast with the dress. So I threw on some navy blue and headed out for the day. The good thing about the textured cardigan with the belt was that its textures kept things in place all day. No fussing. No adjustment. No typical belt-related annoyances. I even kept it on for the car ride home.

I wore this outfit to teach this week when it became chilly again.

The bubble hem dress is a few years old from Forever 21. I pulled it out because it reminded me of this far fancier Y-3 Yohji Yamamoto for Adidas dress I saw recently:

Recent Outfits: Dressing For SPORTS

It can be a challenge to stylishly represent one's fandom for their favorite sports team. Every year I encounter this issue during Steeler season and more recently, I've encountered it as my love for Pitt Basketball has grown. As a lifelong Pittsburgher, I am generally at home dressing like a yinzer on Steeler game days. But style self-consciousness takes over when I am faced with the decision to sport Pitt gear in public, (non-grocery store or dog walk) contexts. But as a doctoral student at the University of Pittsburgh, with a Pitt alumni family legacy I feel compelled to show pride for my school.

Honoring our status as a number 1 seed in men's bball and a number 4 seed in women's, I found a way to still feel like myself. I've maneuvered around this dilemma by turning to my well stocked closet for items that are in the color families of blue and gold. These are what I've come up with, so far:

Marc by Marc Jacobs Dresses (Alessandra Pussy Bow, Pleated Ruffle, and Kaleigh, respectively)
Marc by Marc Jacobs Bags (Owl convertible clutch and Quinn)
Chie Mihara tstraps and Very Volatile pumps
Wolford tights

Although these outfits happen to be fall appropriate, they allow me to support my team while looking like myself at work. Besides, I tend to dress for cold even when the weather is in transition.

To that end, I bought this navy Marc by Marc Jacobs Serena Shauntung ruffle bib top that should arrive tomorrow, in time for the games this week!

Now I just need something gold to pair with it!

Mail Call Makes It Easy To Come Home! Wolfords, Marc by Marc Jacobs, and Jack Spade

Whenever I travel I request that the postal carrier (via the USPS website) to hold my mail so I can pick it up all at once when I return. The anticipation of getting a week's mail in one giant stack consumes me during the often bittersweet voyage home. This time was no different. When I got back from NYC I went to the post office eager for what had accumulated, which included a few packages.

Among the items included some discount hosiery. I wore these heart print Wolford tights in Thyme (green) with a Diane von Furstenberg Nadine dress, BCBG ruffled pumps, and a Marc by Marc Jacobs softy max purse to teach my Advertising class at Pitt last Thursday.

They were custom purchased for me by Clara on Fashionism from TJ Maxx. She shipped them swiftly and included a sweet note. I was so excited to get them when I got home from New York. I love them and have worn them a bunch already! They are pretty versatile for a printed style in a unique color.

I also came home to an "extra 50% off sale" Eluxury.com order in which I bought this Marc by Marc Jacobs Dita Lace Dress.

I love the layers of pleated lace at the collar, cuffs, and hem. I've already worn it a few times, usually with colored tights, and double strap mary janes. It was my OOTN to Chris's birthday party, and for my Tuesday classes, and it has elicited many compliments.

I wasn't the only one who came home to packages. Chris's order from the online sample sale website, Gilt Groupe (click for an invite), arrived. He got an incredible deal on a Jack Spade tech bag.

He hasn't used it yet because he also got a Fred Perry messenger bag for his birthday. But it will be a great option in his growing manbag collection. :)

To come home to these packages in addition to the stacks of magazines and mail and can be exhilarating. But I am going to need to curb my consumption to make up for a rather spendy February and early March!
