Banned banned banned forever

So a number of things happened since my last post that mean I have to return everything that has tags on it and try to sell what doesn't (of those things I can bear to sell, anyway).

Chris and I were basically evicted from our home. Our landlord made some risky investments that went sour, leading him to put his house on the market without telling us. It sold and his plan is to move back into our house. Because our house is his house. Such is the peril of renting. He technically gave us 30 days but basically coerced us to get out by the end of the month. I don't want to give him another penny in rent anyway. So we are under the gun trying to pack, move, find a place to rent, or possibly buy a home. We have to pinch all our pennies, postpone our future and travel plans, and basically accept that overpriced slums are the only rentals that will fit our budget and permit our dog. Hence, the consideration to buy. But buying means I will be even more cash poor because so much of our money will be poured into cosmetic changes and appliance upgrades. While we might end up spending less on a mortgage, to make any home in our price range liveable, we will have to change a lot of things. They will be good long-term investments, as they will increase the resale value of a home, but in the short term, my quality of life is going to suffer and that makes me really sad. We also got other bad news last week in terms of the health of a loved one. To top it all off, I fell hard onto concrete and scraped up my hands and knees. It was like the universe was conspiring to make my last summer days in Pittsburgh as awful as possible. I am very close to being ABD because I HAVE to finish before I start my fellowship. And I didn't need any additional stress. But I have it in SPADES. :( :( :(

Saks second cut sales, Ebay madness, and Good news for my bankbook!

Early Monday morning I was getting ready for class and noticed that Saks.com had made second cuts. So I jumped on the chance to get two dresses I had been e-stalking for a while. The Marc by Marc Jacobs Geo Gems Shantung dress, and the Jovovich-Hawk Roslyn dress.

Both are just my style, even though they are pretty different from each other. I got a free upgrade to rush shipping and received the dresses this afternoon. Sadly, I don't know if I like either (on me) enough to keep. The Geo Gems dress is a little short, so I would only feel comfortable wearing it with tights. And the Roslyn dress is one size too small for my boobs and butt. I am going to search to see if they can locate a size up to exchange.

The Revas I ordered came on Monday and are somehow comfier and more broken in than the other pairs already.

I got these Marc Jacobs shoes in the mail that are shorter heels than the purple versions I already have. They were from ebay but they arrived sort of broken. I am in the process of negotiating with the seller who is being a jerk.

I also got a bunch of antiques and purchased many gifts for loved ones recently which is my favorite kind of shopping. The next post will be all about these gifts, including pictures of some of them. But I have to go to bed now.

The good news is that I secured housing for my fellowship stay in DC! I will be living with a friend for the first half of July then staying in a friend's parents' house in Georgetown for the remaining time. I am very fortunate to come into such a situation because it will ensure that my finances are not stretched immensely by what I thought would be double rent for two months. Now I can save, use excess money to pay off some debts, and perhaps even consume! The first thing on my list is matching iphones for me and Chris. But only after I've saved at least quadruple what they'll cost.

outfits

What to do with all this consumption? Other than work extra to pay for it...

Make outfits!

New Balenciaga Day worn with Tibi dress, Spanx tights, and Baci pumps.
*Sigh* How I already miss my Gris Fonce City. I shouldn't have sold her. Worn with pink patent Revas, Old Navy cords, and an American Apparel shirt.
Nanette Lepore birthday dress from Chris worn with a Cece cardigan, Cynthia Rowley bag, and vintage Saks pumps.
Marc by Marc Softy Max worn with a Manoush dress, Hue tights, and Volatile pumps.

Dying for this dress

Ugh.. it is perfect. But this colorway was only sold at nordstrom and they are out of it. I had them run store searches twice in the last two weeks. So sad.

Too busy to update but not too busy to shop

Lots of change is happening. I am moving to DC for a few months. And I need to decide before that if I want to sort of move to Meadville in the fall for a well-paid visiting professorship. My internal debate is threefold: 1. Living away from home/partner/dog. 2. Working more to make more. 3. Dissertations don't write themselves so more work might mean less diss. writing. Though living away might mean more diss. writing because I won't have as many distractions.

Before any of this happens I need to be ABD. Ugh.

Anyway, recent purchases:

Turquoise patent Tory Burch Revas on big sale at Nordstrom

Old Navy k/o of Mike and Chris leather hoodie from ebay. I actually owned this once already
(bought on ebay then sold to an e-pal because I never used it). I grew to regret no longer having it so I found one again!

And lastly: Chloe Edith pumps bought from an epal at an amazingly cheap price:
