When outfits are better in theory

Nanette Lepore dress
Testament Cardigan
Streets Ahead belt
Steven by Steve Madden pumps

I wore this the other week thinking the drapey cardigan would help to make less billowy a too-large dress. But when I looked at the outfit photos afterwards I realized this particular outfit idea was a lot better in theory than in practice. All day the dress (which is a very light silk) shifted, occasionally exposing my slip. And the cardigan was too drapey to behave underneath the slightly-too-large belt without more bulk. Lesson learned!

This happens more often than I like to admit. I'm lazy the night before and don't actually try on a new outfit idea. I usually take pics before leaving for work. When I check them out I realize my mistake. Those are the days I don't bother to post.

The only way to make your too large dress under a Cardi theory work, is a fitted Cardi made of a thick knit so the folds don't show through. And of course a belt that fits.

Ugh, I hate when that happens. I've committed myself to trying on outfits before I wear them to avoid being frustrated all day at my annoying outfits. A bonus of this is that I can sleep a little longer in the morning since I'm not staring at my closet trying to decide what to wear.

For the record, this outfit photographs nicely even if it didn't wear nicely.

That's been one thing I've gained from snapping photos of my outfits in one big session each month. Things that feel good often don't look as good as they feel.

I love the print on that dress, though!
