Keep or return this Target dress?

As I was saying in my previous post, a big part of me longs for my carefree wardrobe/shopping past life. I love my new life with Emilia and aim to continue to breastfeed for at least her first year if not longer. But I am already growing tired of having to be so careful and strategic when it comes to dressing and shopping for clothes. When I was pregnant it was way easier to deter myself from buying clothing, not knowing where my figure would end up afterwards. But now I feel an itch to either wear my old favorites (most of which don't provide boob access and fit funny) or shop for new things. I know it should have been obvious but I am still surprised by how postpartum times are a whole new state of "in-between."

Breastfeeding on demand requires me to consider the logistics of how I will nurse in public on my terms: comfortably and modestly. In winter it is somewhat easy because I can rely on drapey layers to provide some coverage. Come summertime, I predict that lightweight shirt dresses are going to be key to my warm weather strategy. It was that assumption that led me to buy the above denim shirt dress from Target. The only problem is, the size that doesn't gap at the bust is a little blousey everywhere else. I am debating whether I should keep or return. I bought it knowing that I could take it home to experiment with styling options. I know that superfluous belt would last all of 15 minutes on a hot day.

Details:
Target shirt dress (long sleeve version here)
Nordstrom cardigan
MBMJ pumps
Anthro belt

I'll be back this weekend with a giveaway so stay tuned!

I think it is a really cute summer dress. However, if you have doubts about it, you should probably return it. I always feel like if I'm not excited about a purchase right away, I usually end up not wearing it often.

I think blogger just ate my comment (sorry if you get this twice). I think it is a super cute summer dress. However, if you are having doubts, it is probably best to return it. I find that when I am not immediately excited about a purchase, the item usually ends up unworn.

I think it looks great on you (super spring-y, and probably great in humid PGH weather), but like other folks have said, if you're not 100% sold, take it back. Chances are you'll find something else that fits the bill (it is Target, after all...with their ever-rotating racks of merchandise!).

I also wanted to let you know how much I've enjoyed reading your blog, especially the past few months. I am not a mom, and don't have plans to be any time soon (or ever, maybe? We'll see), but I love how honest and forthcoming you have been about everything- your changing body, shopping with your daughter, your birth story...it's so refreshing to read and comforting in a way that I can't explain in the comments section of a blog!

Cheers,
mindi

Hello, I do think your blog may be having web browser compatibility issues.
When I take a look at your web site in Safari, it looks fine but
when opening in I.E., it has some overlapping issues.

I merely wanted to give you a quick heads up!
Aside from that, fantastic site!

Hi! Do you know if they make any plugins to help with Search Engine Optimization?
I'm trying to get my blog to rank for some targeted keywords but I'm not seeing very good
success. If you know of any please share. Thank you!

Oh man. That really means a lot to me. Thank you so much for saying it. I have wondered if it is too much at times and I imagine for some it is. But I appreciate that for at least one person it isn't. I know this is obvious but motherhood has meant such significant changes that it would be hard to disregard even when I'm blogging about casual topics like outfits or shopping. Thank you also for the advice. I did take it back. I agree that even for a cheap thrill if it is going to occupy closet real estate (and my closets are insanely small) it needs to be something I love.

That is a good call, Rachel! I have thought about that dress a lot. It would be perfect in theory but I haven't tried it cause I am sparing myself the disappointment. The waist was a mostly perfect (but sometimes snug) fit pre-pregnancy. So right now it would be really tiny. And I fear it would be too small in the rib cage area too. Maybe someday? (Probably after the baby weans if I'm lucky... haha).

This is wise and it is this logic that led me to return. I too have unworn or barely worn things that I was lukewarm about from the onset. It makes sense to trust my gut and if I have reservations back it goes. I returned it earlier this week.
