Do you know what it means...

I wore this outfit in New Orleans. I liked how my purple beaded top matched the magenta hue of the Drawing Parallels skirt. The friend I was traveling with actually thought it was a dress at first! She took this photo of me in Louis Armstrong Park. It was undergoing renovations so we weren't able to venture very close to the statues of Mahalia Jackson or the park's namesake, but we did stroll around a bit on a fairly sweltering day. We grabbed Popsicles from Meltdown in the French Quarter on our way there.

I already miss New Orleans terribly (hence the title of this post) and cannot wait to go back in November (when I am presenting at the National Communication Association's annual conference). I discovered so many new things on my second visit that I am excited to share with Chris.  One of the first spots I plan to show him is the French 75 bar in Arnaud's Restaurant. We already drank together at the Sazarac (and will certainly return) but this bar was also very cool, with very excellent cocktails. Upstairs from the bar is a Mardi Gras Museum that showcases the costumes worn in Carnival parades by the women in the family who own Arnaud's.

The daughter was the queen of Mardi Gras and also the queen in the parades of various other social clubs, so she got to wear all of these intricate costumes over the years. Aren't they amazing?

I so need to visit New Orleans one day!  This skirt is just the most versatile piece, and the pop of colour is gorgeous!

Your T Shirt and Drawing Parallels Skirt are a perfect pair Jess.  I've never been to New Orleans.  Sounds like an adventure I must experience one day. The Mardi Gras Costumes are amazing.  So elaborate. I can't imagine wearing one.

I'm sorry to comment like this on such a happy-seeming post, but I am going to stop reading your blog. I am a dedicated lurker who has read every post on the site but never commented, but I just felt that I had to let you know: your blog has devolved. It has gone from being kind of multilayered and cool to being, basically, "look at what I tried on at Anthropologie", "look what I wore that isn't very interesting but included Anthropologie", "look at these pretty things from Anthropologie", and, occasionally, "look at this trip that I took". There is nothing wrong with being another Anthropologie blog, and there are some positive things that can come from that - one of those things being more readers, as so many people love Anthropologie. So while I am departing, new people are entering. The blog has just become so one-dimensional for me, and the kind of postmodern intelligent, vintage-y, pretty, witty woman that Anthropologie presents is just so five years ago for me. I don't think I'll be back to debate in the comments - I have the courage to post this, but not to deal with fans of the blog trying to root out my problems with the blog. As such, I would like to say a quick and amicable goodbye to Consume or Consumed. I hope all is well.

Thank you for your comment and thoughts. I definitely see what you're saying. I agree that the scope of my blog has changed in the last year and a half (as a result of a number of life shifts, some good and some bad... but all causing a difference in how I can allocate my non-work/academic writing time ). I probably need to think a bit more about what that means/what I am sacrificing content-wise in the process...

I bet they are so HEAVY! It's got to be tiring wearing something so fancy. I hope you get to go soon, Laura!

Thanks so much! It is nice not really having a "dress code" at my work though I am off for the summer and working on academic writing projects.

I think you would love it, Carly! Music is so important and integral to the fabric of the city that it would really suit you. :)

Thank you Joelle!

Were you in New Orleans for a librarian convention?  I'm wondering if you might know my college reference librarian--Marty Miller.

I wasn't. I went with a friend who was doing some research for her own work in journalism. But I am friends with a lot of librarians in Pittsburgh (since Pitt has a fine Library Science program)! They're a smart lot, fighting the good fight to preserve material literary culture and adapt to modern digital movements.
