Slanted and Enchanted in Plaids
I've been listening to a lot of Pavement lately. I think it is partially the change in season. And it might also stem from nostalgia for when Chris and I were courting. I think any relationship milestone thrusts a person into a mindset of reflection and reverence for what came before. At any rate, I noticed the other day that I had on an unusual amount of various plaids. It could have certainly been less coordinated, but I was still surprised. This decision that occurred around 6:45 am was likely also influenced by the colder weather. Plaid makes me think of flannel. And flannel makes me think of being bundled and warm. So here I am wearing three plaids at once. I think it works.
Plaid 1: LA Made dress from Anthropologie fall 2009 (anyone know the name of this one? I forget it)
Plaid 2: Burberry scarf
Plaid 3: Burberry jacket (cuffs trimmed with plaid)
I also wore Hue tights, ChloƩ lock flats, and a Streets Ahead bow belt.

Mad for Feminine "New" Look Plaid!
Wore Anthropologie's Reed Shirtdress in red plaid yesterday in anticipation of Mad Men season 4 episode 1. Sure it is a little 1950s and not at all new look in length, but the weather was just cool enough to pull off after a spate of 90+degree heat and unfathomable humidity.
I threw my hair up in a messy French twist (that unfortunately didn't last through my dog walk because I forgot about the necessity of hair spray) and put on my exaggerated cat eye frames. Went to a friend's house to watch the premier with many other friends. Chris made a pitcher (yes, an entire pitcher) of gimlets that went quickly. Afterwards we had those who walked home from the party over for nightcaps. The men had Cuban cigars in the back yard. It felt very appropriate but I didn't get to bed 'til almost 3am.
It was a fantastic episode and sartorially speaking I was most thrilled by Joanie's violet blue, body-conscious ruffle bib sheath. Disappointed by Betty's desperate wardrobe attempts to dress age appropriately in adaptation to her role as new wife of Henry Francis. Honorable mention goes to Peggy's excellent bubble bob hairdo! Did anyone else dress for the occasion?

Plaid, Studs, and Polka Dots for the Dramatic Part of My Day
Since Chris has been working til 5 three days a week, it is easy to predict when he his commute will bring him home to Bloomfield. Lately I try to time a walk with Speck to coincide with greeting him at the bus stop (though often, he arrives early and waits for us on a bench). Speck LOVES this ritual and gets very excited when the time of day and lack of one pack member dawn on her. She starts galloping forward, goading me to move faster with her enthusiasm.
L.A. Made plaid dress from Anthropologie (Similar here, here, and here; Similar plus here and here)
Hue Tights
Guiseppe Zanotti captoe studded flats (similar here, here, and here)
Kate Spade Larabee Dot bag
Forever 21 Studded Belt (similar here and here; similar plus here)
I do worry that when Chris is in South America for his field research not long from now, every time I walk Speck, she will believe we are off to retrieve Chris. He said she would occasionally search longingly for me when they'd walk while I was researching in DC last year.

Once we approach the corner and she spots him, her gallop turns into a RUN and her tail wags furiously. It is pretty adorable. And it results in both of us running toward Chris which probably looks pretty silly. It is a small moment in our day-to-day but I can't help but consider it to feel very romantic. The buildup and the increase of the pace make it difficult to not relish in its rather cinematic composition. Although I am not necessarily averse to public affection, it is rare to find an occasion that necessitates running toward my loved ones, and planting big hello kisses on them. Somehow in the process of this practice, I can't help myself.
