Back it goes: MBMJ Bronte Lace Dress

I LOVED this dress when I first saw it... so romantic and pretty. When it was marked 70% off for Thanksgiving, I snatched it up to try it out. Unfortunately, a poorly placed line makes this dress dreadful on me. Notice the way the lines of the lace seem like they are supposed to go below the bust? They at least come close to doing so on this model:

Not so much on me. And because they don't, it makes the entirely thing appear to be ill-fitting even if it is very comfortable. As much as I love this dress when I layer, it just isn't worth keeping.

Fit review: Because it is a somewhat forgiving pullover style, the sizing is SML. I am wearing a medium which fit fine except for the obvious problem described above. Ample hip room, ample waist room, appropriately sized arm holes, comfortable modest length. If it weren't for the curious and poorly placed line that bifurcates my bust, I would keep it. It comes with a very useful semi-attached slip. The slip can easily be cut from the shoulders and used with other drop waist dress styles. Or swapped for something all black to create a monochromatic lace texture. The dress is of very high quality but its retail price point is a bit insane. My inner goth loves the longer sleeved version, but I don't think it was carried in many department stores so finding it on sale would be challenging.

I think it's super flattering on you!! Yes, I can see what you mean about the seam/line, but I don't think it looks in any way bad. Like I said, super flattering!

I think it is also super flattering on you! It's looks so elegant, and very pretty, but I understand your wanting to return it.

I also think it looks very pretty on you! But only keep it if you really like it don't let us talk you into it!

I agree with the others that it looks incredible on you! I do understand that if it doesn't sit on you the way you envisioned you may feel uncomfortable and want to return it, especially for such a dear price, but I just felt like you should know that you still look fantastic in my eyes :)

I think that dress looks super cute on you and if my math is correct around $250? Not bad for such a great dress and MBMJ! To get the look I think you are looking for you would need to size up. If you look at the model she sized up, you can see in the shoulders, arm length, and the bodice. I agree that the dress does look very different depending on how you want it to fit.

I will throw a tantrum if you return that dress! It looks GREAT on you. I don't think the lace placement looks wrong at all.

Plus, runway designs get changed all over the place before they actually hit the stores. It's not even really the same dress.

Ack- I do love it- though I am obsessed with lace dresses right now! But pictures can be deceiving, so I guess if it doesn't work for you in real life...it does look great though!

Oh, I love this dress on you! I think it looks gorgeous and at first I couldn't figure out what you meant about the fit and the lines not falling in the right place. I love the fit, style, everything. I think you look stunning in it!!!

Thank you Sara, Tien, Tricia, and Goldenmeans! I haven't sent it back yet. And now I am having a conundrum. haha

Missy, I/Saks either have terrible math skills or the price on MyTheresa is way inflated. Either way I paid about $100 less than your calculation (plus I had a $25 gift card). But even at the cheaper price point... it is a lot of dough. It is really beautiful and intricate, which warrants the price to some extent. But I have to think about it...

Amblus, you are too funny and too kind. I am torn now.

Meghan, I really liked it with the Precious Metals Cardi. If I keep it, I will wear it to campus that way!

thatdamngreendress, thank you. I am really interested in having a fantastic lace piece. And this could be it. But I dunno.

Pamela, thanks so much!!!

You ladies have given me a lot to think about. Glad I didn't tape up the box yet. :)

When I saw this picture I gasped aloud! It looks really beautiful on you! I had seen this dress on the internet before, and I normally don't like drop waisted (especially on skinny models), but you made me covet it! I don't think the lines look odd at all. But of course, pictures may give a different feeling than it does to you. For that price I'd keep it! Or exchange it for an XS and I'll gladly take it off your hands!!
