Easy weekend outfit
I wore this (and was actually a bit too warm with the cardiwrap) for neighborhood errand running, a trip to Target, and a dog walk. I've been trying to make more of an effort to photograph outfits outdoors. I know it will not be practical for me to do so all the time. But when I can, I plan to try.
March feels a bit less busy than February in some ways. But all of my formerly postponed tasks have been re-prioritized so I am really just as swamped. My on-campus hours have eased up a bit which is nice. Next month brings my birthday, the end of the term, and travel to San Diego. I have never visited this city and will be staying in Little Italy (which feels fitting as a current resident of Pittsburgh's Little Italy) so bring on the restaurant, sight-seeing, and shopping suggestions! I will be there for a conference but hope to also have some fun.
Outfit details:
Parameter cardiwrap from Piperlime (similar and well priced)
Gap body shirt underneath (via Gabes)
J. Crew matchstick cords
Coach captoe flats (similar)
Anthropologie scarf (via Gabes) (similar)
Cynthia Rowley bag from Zappos (similar and budget similar)
As an aside, I was featured on the Facebook Page of Hanes Hosiery! I have a few pairs of thigh high and control top sheers to giveaway and will be doing so this week. So stay tuned!

So...is there anything better in the world than a cozy cardi and a pretty scarf for an early spring weekend day? I think not. Your outfit is proof.
Oh, Jess - you're going to be in San Diego??? Email me! Let's meet up! :D
Sometimes I wish I lived in Little Italy (SD)! Some food/beverage recs in the area: Craft and Commerce for great food and cocktails, The Waterfront for burgers and beer, Mona Lisa for sandwiches, Underbelly for ramen, maybe Extraordinary Desserts if you have a sweet tooth. If you are there on a Saturday, I strongly encourage you to hit the Little Italy Farmer's Market. Wandering around the market is a fantastic way to spend a Saturday morning---there's music, beautiful produce, and fresh seafood (getting some fresh uni has always been a hit with friends I have had visit).
Other sight-seeing things: Balboa Park! Coronado Island (you can take a water taxi there from downtown to hang out at the beach and see the Hotel Del, where Some Like it Hot was filmed)! It's also fun just to go beach-town hopping. They sort of dot the coast as you go north of the city...
I was hoping that you would chime in! I would love to meet up. I will email you shortly.
You are too sweet! And I felt very cozy and comfy.
Thank you so much for these fantastic suggestions! I have read mixed reviews about the hotel I booked (which was booked fairly late in the game with a lot of spots unavailable due to the scale of this conference) but everyone agrees that the location is good. I am excited. I plan to eat all of the fish tacos I can but I also want to try some of these spots.
I love the idea of taking a water taxi and seeing the hotel where Some Like it Hot was filmed! Chris (who is actually presenting at the conference) was thinking about renting a car on my birthday day to go to La Jolla. If you have any ideas for a nice bday meal option, I would love to hear them. We should probably try to get reservations going if necessary. Thank you again, Megan!
You're in luck, because La Jolla is my neighborhood (I'm a grad student at UCSD). I think it all depends on what kind of atmosphere you are looking for and how much you would like to spend. Three ideas from most to least fancy/expensive...
1) George's California Modern--ocean-view restaurant with an upscale La Jolla vibe. The food here is very good, but very pricey. Reserve a table near the windows around sunset for an amazing view.
2) Whisknladle--more of a bistro-style place, lively and energetic. They are very into the farm-to-table thing and have some nice happy hour tapas specials if you like small plates. I think it's fun to sit on their outdoor patio and people watch.
3) El Pescador--tiny, hole-in-the-wall fish market. Just a few tiny tables. The fish here is FRESH and the people who cook it for you are so nice. Either grab a bottle of wine at one of the wine/liquor stores nearby (there are two within about a block or two) and do the BYO eat-in thing or get take out (tacos or sandwiches are probably your best bet with this option) and take it to the beach, which is a few blocks away.
Whatever you choose, I would definitely take a walk along the coast after dinner. La Jolla goes to bed early, but it really is lovely during the evening. Just park along Coast Blvd and follow the sidewalk that runs along the coastline. There are benches to sit on and watch the waves. Don't stop meandering until you find Children's Pool, where there's a little seawall that creates a tiny little cove. You can walk out on the seawall to get a better view of the ocean and say hi to the seals that live on the beach in the cove. They have been pupping recently, so there are lots of them!
Hope you have a great trip!
It's great to see you outdoors. Have you had a spring break?
Try Bencotto restaurant in Little Italy - it's got great homemade pasta! Other favorites are Tajima Japanese restaurant in Kearny Mesa and Rudy's Tacos in Solana Beach. Lots of good Indian food too - I could go on and on! (My sister lives in SD and I live in LA, so I go down there all the time).
