I really like this particular dress and have been wearing it when I can find a reason. The spring colors of the print are unlike anything else I own. I tend to avoid pastel palettes because they are so seasonally confining but I think I will be able to wear this one year round with the right layering. In terms of fit, it is loose through the torso and has an easy drape so while I am wearing an 8, a 6 or 10 would have worked similarly. You can see the garment measurements through its listing on Net-a-Porter.
Excuse my deer in headlights on the right. I am trying to force myself to use the tripod and take clearer ootd photos but have yet to warm up to the idea of it.
Song of the day (thanks to Treme)

I am going to knock you over and steal your dress! In fact, I'll take your shoes, too! Of course, I'm only kidding. I don't do paisley, but your dress is super duper cute.
The tripod is a period of adjusting, but it gets easier! I prefer taking photos with it than to have Steve take photos of me. I just hate the idea of posing while having him look at me through the lens.
That's a lovely dress! You must tell me how you afford your clothes on a grad student stipend!
Hahah, Tien! Thanks for the vote of confidence on tripod usage. Chris is seriously the worst at centering/patiently taking photographs so the tripod is my best option.
La Historiadora de Moda, Thank you for the compliment! I try my best to bargain hunt and shop strategically. I also fund new purchases with the sales of things I am less enthused about via ebay and bonanzle. I also buy a lot of my designer stuff second or third hand from fashion forums or places like ebay/bonanzle. The bag and shoes in this outfit both came to me this way (the shoes were new but the bag wasn't). I got this dress from a recent bloomingdales.com sale that allowed me to stack so many $ and % off coupons that the price ended up being 60% off or so.
In general, I take on an adjunct teaching gig or two per year that I use for my "mad money." Pittsburgh's cost of living is so low that between my stipend, my adjunct wages, and splitting bills with my partner, I am able to have a decent savings cushion apart from my fun shopping budget. I do realize this is an extremely privileged set of conditions that yield such a fortunate quality of life for a grad student. I begin my first TT job at a university not far from here starting this fall, so I am very much looking forward to real wages while continuing to reside in such an inexpensive city.
I hope you didn't think that I was being judgmental! I was just curious, and I too have been in a relatively good position, as I've been funded by my PhD program and a very well paid (in terms of adjuncting) visiting faculty member this year. It's enabled me to pay off a load of credit card debt and keep us afloat in the winter term when my husband had no income.
I loooove this dress, must stalk it now!!! and I love how you've styled it, effortlessly chic!!!
oh and I got the bags today in the mail, can't wait to use them! I love that they all fit in a mini bag, very easy to put them back in the pouch and throw in my purse so I always have them
La Historiadora de Moda, not at all! I think it is very understandable to be curious considering the terrible wages so many of us deal with while we pursue the PhD! I am lucky to lack debt (including that of the student loan variety) which is another reason my stipend feels ample. This year in particular I am funded through a writing fellowship (thanks AAUW!) that is more lucrative than my TF gig was. I also should be clear that I never ever buy any clothes or accessories at retail price. Like not even at Target or Old Navy. I am shopping allergic to full price.
Brianna, thank you! I am so glad you got the Baggus! Enjoy them! I love my singles and sets. And they look so pretty even when they're bursting with potatoes and detergent. :)
The print on this dress is amazing! I love it, and I'm not sure I ever thought I would say that about paisley :)
I'm with Tien -- getting used to a tripod takes time! I still take completely awkward pictures with mine half the time :)
Goldenmeans, I seriously love paisleys of all kinds but am glad to hear those who are usually skeptical of its magic appreciate this particular print. I can't remember when I first realized how much I love it but I am willing to guess it stems from my vintage-hoarding past.
Your photos are always great, btw. I think getting over the awkward of smiling to an inanimate object is going to take some getting used to for me.
